Differences & Selection of Ntag213, Ntag215 and Ntag216?

Published byEdith atJune 24,2024

Demand for chips such as Ntag213, Ntag215, and Ntag216 will expand as NFC tags and applications see dramatic growth in 2022. Every day, millions of people use NFC technology to connect things around them. It's a fast and secure way to pay, ride a train, unlock doors, start your car, and even connect to our favorite brands.

NFC technology is fantastic, just one touch. Ntag213, Ntag215 and Ntag216 chips are favored by most of our customers.

What are Ntag213, Ntag215 and Ntag216?

NTAG® 213215216 NFC Forum Type 2 Tag Compliant IC with 144504888 Bytes User Memory

NTAG 213, NTAG 215, and NTAG 216 have been developed by NXP® Semiconductors as standard NFC tag ICs to be used in mass-market applications such as retail, gaming, and consumer electronics, in combination with NFC devices or NFC-compliant Proximity Coupling Devices. NTAG 213, NTAG 215, and NTAG 216 (from now on, generally called NTAG 21x) are designed to fully comply to NFC Forum Type 2 Tag and ISO/IEC14443 Type A specifications.

Target applications & use cases include Out-of-Home smart advertisement, product authentication, mobile companion tags, Bluetooth® or Wi-Fi pairing, electronic shelf labels, and business cards. NTAG 21x series chips' memory can also be segmented to implement multiple applications at the same time.

NTAG 213/NTAG 215/NTAG 216 tags have high input capacitance and their ICs are tailored for applications requiring small size without compromising performance. Small NFC tags can be more easily embedded into product tags or electronic devices. It is worth noting that the mechanical and electrical specifications of the NTAG 213, NTAG 215, and NTAG 216 chips are tailored to meet the requirements of inlay and tag manufacturers.

Difference between Ntag213, Ntag215 and Ntag216

Ntag213
Ntag213 is the new generation of the Ntag203 chip. It has advanced function and performance.  It has enhanced reading speed and range. The fact that it has a bigger memory equal to 144 bytes makes it a better option. Note that the older version of Ntag203 has already been replaced by Ntag213. Even so, you can still use the Ntag213 chip on older applications without any issue.

Ntag215
Ntag215 is a more affordable option if you aim for higher memory. It has 504 bytes of memory making it suitable to be encoded with V-cards. Its unique feature is the password-protection. It is a ideal NFC chip and is slightly cheaper than Ntag216.

Ntag216
Ntag216 has the highest memory of 888 bytes.  It is a best chip for making business cards because it can store large data.  Many businesses opt for this type because it is very fast. But it is also expensive at the same time.

Generally, the main difference for Ntag213, Ntag215 and Ntag216 chip of NFC tags is their memory. More memory, more URLs can be stored. Even so, they have the same features as Counter ASCII mirrors and have a 32-bit password. They are also lockable.
